Pernicious Pickling | Pickled Carrots, Ginger + Spice
Costa Mesa, CA
Artisans: Kendra Coggin + Baron Conway
Kendra and Baron have been avid picklers since childhood, when their mothers slathered Chow-Chow and Piccalilli on their school lunch sandwiches, respectively. After moving to Southern California, the duo was suprised to not find any locally-made pickles in their neighborhood shops, and the journey to bring Pernicious Pickling to life started.
After 15 months perfecting their favorite recipes, garnering state licenses, and setting up shop, the company was finally born in October 2013. Today, they have 10 varieties of pickled vegetables, all featuring bold flavors inspuired by their homelands of the South and the United Kingdom tied together by the richly diverse culture of their new home.
Stripling's General Store | Wile Mayhaw Jelly
Artisans: The Hardin-Stripling Family
Operating for over 50 years, Striplings General Store began it's roots as a butcher shop selling sausage and fresh cuts of pork, but as demand grew, so did the family business. In 1991, the company expanded to include a full line of artisanally crated products including jams, jellies, salad dressings, sauces, and more, while continuing to keep sausage making the backbone of operations.
Today, the Stripling family tradition continues to grow with two additional locations, and moving into the third generation of family-helmed staff, with youngest daughter Lindsay joining the reigns and reinforcing the family business for generations to come. What continues to separate Striplings General Store is their dedication to quality and service, crafting products that are seasonal, nutritional, and above all, delicious.
