All is Fare | Ziza + Seth, The Interview

logo We're excited to introduce Ziza & Seth Bauer - the dynamic duo behind Two B Events as our next couple profiled for All Is Fare In Love + Food! One part planner and one part designer, together they create beautifully imagined events with food often acting as an anchor for the entire evening. The Los Angeles-based husband and wife team (who fell in love while surfing) recently sat down with The FareTrade to chat about their culinary memories, inspiration, and favorite dishes. And on Friday, we'll be sharing recipes they created after delving into our September 2014 basket curated by Chef Jeff Mahin, so stay tuned!

What was the first meal the two of you shared?

Baking chocolate chip cookie-dough cupcakes for a fundraiser…does that count?

Who cooks + who cleans?

Depends, we both enjoy the cooking part, so we have (somewhat unofficially) deemed whoever cooks isn’t also the one who cleans. 7 times out of 10, that actually happens.

Favorite dish the other makes?

Seth’s best dish – His goat cheese scrambled eggs with sea salt, cracked pepper and blistered roasted tomatoes.

Ziza’s best dish – Her colcannon, a dish from the Irish side of the family using mashed potatoes and kale.

Favorite foodie destination?

Italy. Can we just say the entire country of Italy?

What Drew You To Food?

Seth: My stomach. I like the organic chemistry of mixing and creating.  Growing up on a farm in a rural area you learn quickly how to cook to work to live.

Ziza: I have a background in the health sciences, so I’ve always been interested in the connection between nutrition and health. There are so many different foods with different benefits out there; I love discovering new ways to eat well without having to pay a price later.

What Person, Living Or Dead, Would You Most Like To Cook Dinner For?

Abe Lincoln

Favorite Seasonal Ingredient?

That’s a hard question for California, where seasons don’t really seem to change. But if we had to choose, we really love those few summer months where blueberries are ripe, fat, and typically on sale.

Local artisanal treat of choice?

We love a good olive oil. Once you’ve tasted that peppery, crisp bite of a good harvest, you can’t go back to the generic stuff.

If You Had To Choose Your Last Meal, Where/What Would It Be?

Seth: It’d probably be a good cut of meat.

Ziza: Some kind of ooey, gooey, carb-filled pasta dish. So, we’d be back in Italy.

Favorite Restaurant or Food Experience?

While on vacation in Croatia we stumbled upon a tiny restaurant at the top of a hill, perched among wild lavender and olive trees. It had just rained, so we were the only people sitting on the patio (which happened to provide a stunning view of the Adriatic Sea). Everything in the restaurant – from the bread, to the olive oil, to the limoncello – was made in house, and the staff was so welcoming, we felt like family by the end of the night. We even convinced them to sell us a bottle of that prized limoncello, which they had never sold to anyone else before.

What Do You Both Enjoy Doing Outside of the Kitchen?

When we can, we love to travel. It’s a good practice to get away from the fast-paced life of LA and get outside of our bubbles a bit. When we’re together someplace totally new, it reminds us of how great a friendship we have, and how little of anything material we truly need.

What’s Your Favorite Kitchen Soundtrack?

The Early Jazz station on Pandora.

Come back tomorrow for a recipe a-piece from the wanderlust couple.
