Chef Dakota Weiss

Eater Los Angeles, "Hottest Chef" 2013

Executive Chef + Partner, Estrella + Sweetfin Poke; Los Angeles, CA

Everywhere else it’s the peak of winter, but in Hollywood, it’s award season! Beautiful dresses, elegant parties, the see-and-be-seen. When we linked up with this month’s chef collaborator, Dakota Weiss, we knew we wanted to create a sense of pure LA escape. A menu that would make you want to put on some music and dance around your kitchen. We’re excited to say, together, we succeeded! The dishes are warming and approachable like the best guests at a dinner party; the vibe unmistakable Los Angeles. At this time of year, everyone deserves a little vacation, even if it’s at home around the table with those you love

Estrella

Drawing inspiration from the famed Laurel Canyon bungalows of Joni Mitchell and “Mama” Cass Elliot, Estrella restaurant, recreates this long-vanished artistic community through its seamless blend of indoor and outdoor spaces, modern American cuisine, and theatrical venue. Estrella, named after the circus girl from the Mitchell song “Ladies of the Canyon,” evokes a time when food, music, artistry, and community all coexisted under one canopy. Guests will dine on globally inspired dishes from Executive Chef Dakota Weiss on an expansive outdoor terrace lined with a golden wood trellis, and hung with colorful glass pendants, twinkling lights, and locally sourced plants.
